Mike Livesley (Part 2) - Pedal Maker
Pedal combinations, software emulation and multi effects boxes.
This week Ben remains up in Edinburgh with guitar pedal guru Mike Livesley, AKA ‘Made by Mike’. In this second part of the episode we cover pedal combinations, software emulation and multi effects boxes.
We first found out about Mike on episode 003 with Ross Millard of the Futureheads, as Ross gave a nod to the brilliant guitar pedal that he had built for him some years ago. It may only have been our third episode, but Mike was already tuning in, and following a brief Twitter exchange, we agreed an episode on guitar pedals was required.
Another guest with a real DIY ethos, Mike brings a real passion and enthusiasm to the show. As a youngster he went through the same process of pain and elation that many of us experienced when learning the guitar. His story is something easy to relate to.
The part that a lot of us didn't however graduate to, is building our own pedals. As Mike describes how he started down that rabbit hole, he and Ben let their inner geeks out as they cover the variety of reasons for wanting to alter the sound of your guitar. I still remember vividly with equal fondness and pain, the early days in my bedroom with Ben trying out the different functions and sounds on a Zoom pedal.
Mike is a genuine bonus to the music community, we love this double header episode with him.
The good cause this week for the second time on ACPG is food banks. First covered in episode 001 with Paul Smith of Maximo Park, it's becoming something that the music community clearly feel strongly about. Links as always below.
